Finding your "thing".
Finding your “Thing”. Your workout. Your activity is so important. It helps you find who you really are. Keeps you focused on your goals. Creates determination inside your soul. Gives you joy. It’s something you have to do to make your journey complete. Your story. Yours. Affective. Significant. Healthier. Happier. Stronger.
This time around it had to be different. January of 2016 my precious friend Court invited me to my first Jazzercise Class, Trussville Gets Fit. I was so out of shape at that point weighing over 250 pounds. But that day everything changed. I walked into a class that helped changed my life. And to think I thought my girl was crazy for asking me to go. Going through my mind. “I’m too out of shape for this.”, “Will I be good enough?” Will the ladies make fun of me?”, “There is no way I will keep up.”, “What if I hurt my knee again?”, “I’m not coordinated enough.” I could go on and on. All these lies I told to myself. Were just that. Lies. So I took my first every Dance Mixx class and was hooked. I have been attending Trussville Gets Fit Jazzercise class for 3 years now. I absolutely love this workout and my girls I get to dance with. Every time I walk in the door I know that my crew is there to lift me up. My instructor Ricardo is the best. He keeps me motivated and has always encouraged me. He helped take this out of shape girl and find her strength again. What could be better? Getting to dance, workout, and have fun while doing it. Seriously. Could not imagine my story without my Jazzercise crew, my gorgeous daughter and my beautiful moma. Nothing like seeing your favs dancing right beside you. Watching our three generations get healthier together. Cali and Mom you are my hero’s. My inspiration. My Jazz crew thank you for being so incredible. Supporting. Amazing. Just stinkin Jazy. Jazzercise. It’s my “thing”. It’s our “thing”.
Fast forward to almost a year ago. I can’t believe it has almost been a year at Temple Work. My bestie, Pam had started at a gym across the street from her house. Each day she would tell me all about it and I couldn’t wait to hear what workout they were doing that day. I was so intrigued. Pam said, “You have to come with me.” So with hesitation I did it. Breaking out of every comfort zone I have ever had. Heading to a gym of ladies who lifted weights, did AMRAP, METCOM, and some fierce cardio. Me?? Lift weights? Keep up with these strong ladies? What about my knee? Who am I kidding? Again. Did it. Holy moly I did it. Obsessed? Yes. Love it? Yes. Hard? Yes. Worth it? Heck YES! Natalie my coach is beyond amazing. She has helped me overcome my fears. Helped me get stronger. Taught me that nothing is impossible with hard work, determination and HIM! My Temple Work tribe, I stinking adore you. Thank you for the countless encouragement, cheers and pictures. ;) Temple Work, It’s my new “thing”. It’s our “thing”.
Try out different classes. Visit gyms. Go with a friend. Check out local studios. See about a personal trainer. Try it. Not once but a couple of times. It can be scary. I know. But do it. Do it for you. Your health. You deserve it. Nothing feels better than an amazing hour burning fat, releasing stress, and spending time with others who are on the same path as you. Who can relate. Understand. Inspire. Count on. It WILL be one of the best “things” you ever do. Promise.
